Facebook launched Reactions as an extension to its like button in the year 2016. This feature has helped the users to show more expressions on the social media platform with its own limited number of emojis for a post. There is a like button, love button, an angry emoji, sad emoji, haha emoji and now the social media is also planning to add a downvote button to it for its users.
Facebook is testing a feature that will let their users express a negative reaction to comments on the social network platform but it is much more different than the dislike button that FB users have been waiting for so long. The Facebook has finally confirmed that it is testing the downvote button. However, it says that the new downvote button is only meant to flag off the inappropriate comments which mostly appears on public posts of the users.
How will the downvote button work?
Once the button is live for all, users will see a downvote button in their FB reactions. By simply clicking the downvote button, will hide the comment for the user who taps it. It will then ask the user about the reaction that whether the comment was “offensive”, “misleading”, or “off topic”. Furthermore, downvote view counts will not be visible to users. The company official also says that the button will basically give feedback to Facebook and not visible to users.
“We are exploring a feature for people to give us feedback about comments on public page posts. This is running for a small set of people in the US only,” the Facebook CEO Said.
The company also revealed that it is a short-term test and does not intent to affect the ranking of any page, post or comment. The button is only going to available for the 5 percent of Android users as of now. Also, the button shows up only on the posts appearing on any public page. Any of the public figures or users cannot see the button.
Facebook dislike button has been in so much demand as like as the WhatsApp recall button was before it launched. News of Facebook working on a dislike button has been around since 2009 ever since it was first introduced a like button.
Although the company has now confirmed a downvote button it is going to be totally different from the dislike button. The new downvote button is more like as that of the YouTube’s flag feature that allows its user to report inappropriate content to YouTube.
