In a move that instills the drivers on the road to reign in their speed within the prescribed speed limit of not more than 60km/hr, now the Chandigarh traffic police have installed a radar speed sensor display board. The board is installed on road Sector 9-10.
Radar Speed Sign Board is an interactive sign which displays the speed of the all the vehicle who gets passed of it. It shows the ‘slow down’ signal when the speed crosses more than the prescribed speed limit. Moreover, they are equipped with night vision technology as well and will record the speed of approaching vehicles every time. When the speed crosses the prescribed limit, and white light will blink on the screen to alert the driver about the speed. The camera installed then clicks the picture of the speeding vehicle and send it to the concerned official. These cameras can even click the photo of the speeding vehicle when there are a dense fog and heavy rain. A challan will be sent to the driver with the steady image of the over the speed limit of a vehicle.
Speed radar signs are a common practice in western countries where the administration takes resort to this as a traffic calming device. It simply slow cars down by making drivers aware that they are driving at speeds above the prescribed limits. This is used in addition to or instead of physical devices such as speed humps, speed cushions, speed tables, and speed bumps.
This is a big massive step towards as it is a self-restraining practice. It inspires drivers themselves to take action rather than slow down in fear of challan.
