Padman challenge changes the manner in which we percieve the celebrities.
Indian celebrities today tend to be as much relatable as possible in their quest to be the best.
Padman was supposed to hit the big screens this republic day, is now available for the release tomorrow, starring Sonam Kapoor, Radhika Apte and Akshay Kumar. The film based on the life of inventor Arunachalam Muruganantham and directed by R. Balki showcases the quest of an average person to provide for the ‘woman problem’ (read menstrual cycle) of his wife.
The inventor and social enthusiast in his unique style Kick-started a campaign that went with hashtag: PadMan challenge. The filmmakers saw the lucrative opportunity to promote their movie and promoted the challenge. The idea:
Fighting hullabaloo of socio-cultural norms around the menstruation. From the TVC we grew up on: blue liquid on a hanky to ladies speaking their mind on the issue, India has came a long way.
But still the taboo remains. The celebrity took it upon themselves to challenge their colleagues to come up with a new idea to promote the sanitary napkin (pads in Indian terminology).
Celebrity style of promoting female hygiene:
The who’s who of the Tinseltown bought the sanitary napkin to their routine and encourage females to emancipate themselves by using a cleaner and safer alternative to rags. So let’s visit the list of celebrity hashtag ‘PadManchallenge accepted’ challengers.
The first chain started with the man himself who took Twitter by storm with his words which read as: Yes! That’s a Pad (sanitary napkin) in my hand and there is nothing to be ashamed about. It’s natural. Period!
He tagged the star cast of the movie PadMan in his post. The woman behind the cause: Twinkle Khanna took the challenge with her witty mannerism and in turn tagged the Mr. Perfectionist: Aamir Khan and lady fashionista: Shabhana Azmi.
Soon the whirlwind of hashtag vs hashtag took the Twitter by storm. Aamir Khan in turned roped in The Shahrukh Khan and Amitabh Bachhan.
The recently married Mrs. Kohli: Anushka Sharma posed (read poised) with her co star Varun Dhawan. The stars join in an attempt to come out of box and talk with the male friends. Truly the stars assert the need to be carefree about the days. Twin Dad: Karan Johar too posed with the sanitary napkin to create awareness on the issue.
The challenge attracted the dimpled beauty Alia Bhatt who took the time to pose in her Yasmin Poonawala gym with the pad. Her It pose gave us the desire to look good and to take periods as a normal part of the life.
When it comes to the cause of gaining momentum, Papa Anil Kapoor along with Rajkumar Rao sensitised on the issue by buying the products directly from store.
The telly stars decided to take charge of the situation. They join the long list of celebrities promoting the use of napkins as a method to stay healthy and clean.
